- לָעַז
- לָעַז(b. h.; cmp. לָעַג) (to talk, babble;) 1) to speak a foreign tongue, esp. to speak Greek. Meg.II, 1 לוֹעֵז, pl. לוֹעֲזוֹת, v. לָעוֹז. 2) (v. לוּז IV) to talk against, criticise, cast suspicion. Pes.51a לָעֲזָה עליו כלוכ׳ the entire country criticised him; a. e. Hif. הִלְעִיז same. Y. Shek. V, 4 in some ed. of Talm. Babli מַלְעִיזִין, v. לוּז IV.
